Day 17 : A Disney song

When I was in my pre-school at Child Study Center, Maryknoll College which is now Miriam College we had our Annual Play at the Marian Auditorium located at the College Building which was “Cinderella.” It is part of the curriculum that the kids will be part of a big production and I mean a big one coz as far as I can remember I felt I was a professional theater actress, when my part was only a flower in the garden. HA-HA-HA! But I am still proud of it!

The song “A Dream is a Wish” was composed for the Walt Disney film Cinderella that was first shown in year 1950 that was sung by Ilene Woods. It is an encouraging song that we should never stop dreaming. I am sure most of us are very familiar with the song.

Cinderella is a folk tale that was first published in 1697 and Walt Disney released its animated filmed in 1950 and it is now considered as a Disney Classic and the most well-known adaptation.

The story is about a girl named Cinderella who had a stepmother and two step sisters who were equally vain. When Cinderella’s father died, the stepmother and step sisters treated her like a servant and made her work all chores in the house, day and night. One day, the Prince called for a ball and invited all the young ladies because he was planning to choose among them the lady whom he will marry. Of course, the two step sisters were very excited and really planned for their wardrobes and sarcastically told Cinderella that servants were not invited at all.

Cinderella wanted to go to the ball and was really in despair when suddenly her Fairy Godmother appeared magically and with her magic wand she change Cinderella into a beautiful young princess dressed with a stunning with sparkling gems gown and with a pair of the very most delicate pair of glass slippers. Not only that, she has magically transformed the pumpkin into a golden carriage, the mice to horses, rat to coachman,  lizards to footmen. It was a dream came true, however, her Godmother warned her that she had to return before the clock strikes 12 midnight otherwise the magic spell will be broken.

Finally as soon as the Prince and Cinderella met at the palace both of them got startled and was attracted to each other.  Cinderella didn’t notice the time until it was nearly 12 midnight. So she ran out from the palace and lost one of her glass slippers on the steps. The Prince tried to chase her up but was not successful but instead he saw and kept the glass slippers left by Cinderella. The Prince was very eager to see Cinderella again for he knows that she is the lady that he is looking for to marry. So the Prince had the slippers tried on by all the women in the kingdom. The Prince went to the villa where Cinderella lives, the step sisters tried to win him over, until Cinderella came in and asked if she can try the slippers. Obviously the slippers fit to her foot perfectly and she showed the other pair that she kept it.

The Prince married Cinderella and lived happily ever after . . .

We should never stop dreaming, let our dreams be our motivation to reach our goals in life. We should also be treating people the way we would like to be treated.
