The Fire Tree or Flame Tree grows up to 40 – 50 feet
in height and blooms its bright orange-red flowers during the spring and summer.
The tree grows in clusters and its blossom measures 4 – 5 inches across. Its flowers
are like four spoon-shaped petals that stand upright with white and yellow
markings. Its leaves resemble ferns are 12 – 20 inches long. It can grow on a
variety of soil, from alkaline to acidic and rocky to loam. In the Philippines
these trees are commonly seen in full color during the early to mid-summer
season.
It is my favorite tree, it may be a common tree
to some but it has its own distinctive beauty that makes it very attractive. Just
like us people, we may have common traits but we are still unique in our own
way. Its vibrant orange color makes it very noticeable. The color orange is a
powerful color which stimulates enthusiasm and creativity, and this may be the
reason why every time I see a Fire Tree it reminds me how beautiful and colorful
life is.
University of the Philippines Campus, Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines |
It has been my favorite tree since I can’t remember
when, but I vividly picture when I was in mid-school, we used to wander around
the campus of University of the Philippines, Diliman while we were at the back
of the PickUp car. We just put our heads up and look at the ray of the sun
peeping through the lovely flowers of the tree. Oh! how I miss doing it, very
relaxing and enjoyed it with friends.

Today should always be our most wonderful day.”
